Consulting for therapy practices and nonprofits

Here’s what often brings people to my practice:

Melanie McClellan LCSW, MPH

I’ve spent over a decade working in the nonprofit healthcare world, and I’ve seen how people get stuck in so many different ways. I’ve worked behind the scenes in hospitals, clinics, and small organizations, as well as directly with clients in inpatient psychiatry, community mental health, and outpatient settings.

These experiences have shaped how I understand people—not just what they’re going through, but how hard they’re already trying to make things better.

Now, I get to do the work I really love. I work with people who feel stuck—whether that’s anxiety, OCD, life transitions, or something that just won’t seem to shift—and help them actually move forward. The specialties I focus on and the approaches I use, like CBT, ACT and ERP, are intentional. They’re practical, evidence-based, and designed to create real change, not just insight.

I tend to be a pretty down-to-earth therapist. I use a mix of humor, honesty, and the occasional bad metaphor to make things feel more human and less overwhelming. I also bring that same mindset into my consulting work by helping therapy practices and nonprofits get unstuck, whether that’s through operations, workflow, or grant support. At the end of the day, I like helping people (and organizations) move from feeling stuck to feeling clear, capable, and moving forward.

    Consulting

I offer consulting for therapists and organizations looking to build, streamline, or grow their work. This includes private practice setup, operations support, and nonprofit grant work. My approach is straightforward and solution-focused. I help you get unstuck, simplify your systems, and move things forward efficiently.

Therapeutic Modalities

I don't use just one approach. I pull from multiple evidence-based modalities based on what the moment calls for.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

A highly effective, evidence-based treatment for OCD and anxiety. ERP helps you break out of cycles of fear and avoidance by gradually facing what triggers anxiety—without relying on the behaviors that temporarily make it feel better. Over time, this reduces the intensity of the anxiety and helps you build real confidence in your ability to handle uncertainty.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT helps you understand how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected. Together, we identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck and work on developing more balanced, helpful ways of thinking and responding. This approach is practical, structured, and focused on creating real, day-to-day changes.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT focuses on changing your relationship with your thoughts rather than trying to get rid of them. Instead of getting stuck in overthinking or avoidance, we work on making space for difficult thoughts and feelings while still moving toward what matters to you. The goal is to help you live a meaningful life—even when anxiety or discomfort shows up.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT focuses on building skills to manage intense emotions, navigate relationships, and cope with stress more effectively. This includes tools for distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and mindfulness. It’s especially helpful if you feel overwhelmed by your emotions or find it hard to stay grounded in difficult moments.
